Hold the phone, Mabel, there's actually something to blog about here at JSH Combo HQ. Today I performed on piano at the Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market, regaling tourists from Wisconsin with that patented low-budget no-fidelity "Creeps Music" sound. The set list, for the three statisticians among you, went thusly:
Green Fairy Theme (JSH original, from "Toulouse-inations")
That's How I Got To Memphis (Tom T. Hall cover by way of Bill Haley & the Comets)
Don't Let Me Down (Beatles cover)
Liberace Never Did This (JSH original, instrumental)
Stray Cat Strut/16 Tons/Sultans of Swing (Stray Cats/Tennessee Ernie Ford/Dire Straits covers)
At Long Last Love (Cole Porter cover)
Pulcovian Dixieland (JSH original, instrumental)
The Strangler of Bradenton (Headcoats cover of "The Strangler of Boston Town" with JSH-altered lyrics)
Cowboys Are Square/Louie Louie (Mighty Caesars/Kingsmen covers)
Although I have a standing invite for repeat performances here, it may be awhile. I'm going to be back on the road hawking crude paperbacks for the JSH Book Tour and I may not be back this way again. But it felt good to tickle the ebonies and ivories for the first time in awhile, and it's got my blood up to start playing out more often. (And next time, note to self, bring a tip jar!)
